Missed you once is based on a story I remember hearing about my great grandma's life. My mom told me about how she struggled raising her kids financially, she had 6 kids but two of them had passed away when they were really young because she couldn't afford medicine when they were sick. Her childhood was also hard and one story that stood out to me was how her step mom used to comb her hair with a brush made with nails. And her husband left her and her kids to start another family with someone else. I wanted the fetus and umbilical cord to represent the growth experienced by everyone who was impacted by my great grandma's decisions and how painful and challenging their lives were. She continues to suffer with the pain she mentally inflicts upon herself.
